If the vehicle can still be driven, leave the tunnel or underpass; if that is not possible, drive the vehicle to the nearest emergency area (lay-by); otherwise, stop the vehicle at the right-hand edge. In addition, they must: switch off the engine, keep the sidelights on and switch on the hazard warning lights; place and switch on the hazard warning device. Both the driver and the other occupants must leave the vehicle and go quickly to the nearest shelter or exit, and must never walk on the carriageway if there are areas closed to vehicle traffic.
