According to the General Traffic Regulations, if a wheel is punctured you must stop the vehicle quickly and safely off the carriageway or in a safe place. This is because, when the vehicle has broken down, the risks for the driver and for other road users must be kept as low as possible. Leaving the vehicle in the middle of the road or driving on with a punctured wheel can cause serious accidents.
