On carriageways outside built-up areas with more than one lane for your direction of travel, you must normally use the lane furthest to the right. You may use the other lanes in that direction when traffic or road conditions make it advisable, provided you do not obstruct a vehicle following you. With three or more lanes, lorries, vans and special vehicles with a maximum authorised mass over 3,500 kg, and combinations of vehicles longer than 7 metres, must use the right-hand lane; they may use the next lane in exceptional cases, but never the others.
