To stop bleeding, first press directly on the wound, if possible with clean gauze or cloth, and do not remove it even if it gets soaked. Second, if the bleeding does not stop, raise the injured limb. Third, if this is not enough, press on the artery at a point before the wound. As a last resort, a tourniquet could be applied above the bleeding.
