Drivers of vehicles with a maximum authorised mass (MAM) of no more than 3,500 kg who, for emergency reasons, drive at an abnormally low speed and so seriously disrupt traffic must drive on the hard shoulder on their right, if it is usable and wide enough. If it is not, they must use only the part of the carriageway that is strictly necessary. When they do not seriously disrupt traffic, they must drive in the right-hand lane. They must warn other road users of this situation with the vehicle's hazard warning lights. When these drivers are on a motorway (autopista) or dual carriageway (autovía), they must leave it at the first exit.
