Under Article 118.4 of the General Traffic Regulations (as worded by Royal Decree 518/2026), a driver who gets out of the vehicle onto the carriageway or hard shoulder of a road outside a built-up area must wear, day and night, a high-visibility reflective vest that meets the requirements for personal protective equipment. It is best to put it on before getting out.
