Under Annex XII of the General Vehicle Regulations, a car's compulsory equipment includes one high-visibility reflective vest. Article 118.4 of the General Traffic Regulations (as worded by Royal Decree 518/2026) obliges the driver to wear it when getting out of the vehicle onto the carriageway or hard shoulder of a road outside a built-up area. Carrying another one for a passenger is advisable, but not compulsory.
