Using clips to hold the seat belt is prohibited, because in an impact they reduce the effectiveness of the belt and increase the chance of the occupant being injured, or of the injuries being more serious. For the seat belt to protect you effectively, it must be in perfect condition and correctly positioned: - The chest strap must pass over the collarbone and the middle of the chest. - The lap strap must be over the pelvis and the hip bones. - It must fit closely to the body (clips are prohibited), and you should avoid driving in bulky clothing, because it reduces effectiveness. - It is also effective during pregnancy.
