As a general rule, a driver following another vehicle must leave enough distance to be able to stop without hitting it if it brakes sharply, taking particular account of speed, grip and braking conditions, and the weather and surroundings, as when driving in the rain. In rain the braking distance can double. The braking distance is the distance the vehicle travels from when we press the brake until it stops completely.
