You may overtake a cyclist even where overtaking is prohibited, moving onto the opposite side of the road if nobody is coming and it can be done without risk. You must leave a gap of at least 1.5 metres and, from 1 October 2026, outside built-up areas you must reduce your speed by at least 20 km/h.
