As a general rule, drivers have right of way over animals, except in the following cases: on properly signed livestock routes (cañadas); when they are turning to enter another road and there are animals crossing it, even if there is no crossing for them; when the vehicle crosses a hard shoulder along which animals are moving that have no livestock route. General livestock routes or crossings are signed with additional panels bearing the word CAÑADA placed under the domestic animals crossing sign.
