The system watches traffic crossing behind the vehicle when you reverse out of a parking space where cars are parked side by side. If it detects a vehicle approaching and the estimated time to collision is 2 to 3.5 seconds, based on the relative distance and speed, it gives a sound and/or visual warning on the vehicle's multifunction display or in the exterior mirrors themselves. (If the driver does not react to the warning, some manufacturers' systems even apply the brakes with maximum force when a collision is imminent, as long as the vehicle is going slower than 15 km/h.)
