Once the seat belt is fastened, pull it slightly upwards so that it fits snugly against your body. Check that it is not caught or twisted at any point. The seat belt must protect you effectively, and for that it must be in perfect condition and correctly placed: - The chest strap must go over the collarbone and across the middle of the chest. - The lap strap must go over the pelvis and the hip bones. - It must fit snugly against the body (using clips is forbidden), and you should avoid driving in bulky clothes, because they reduce its effectiveness. - It is also effective during pregnancy. Submarining is one of the greatest risks of using the seat belt incorrectly. It happens when the seat belt cannot hold the driver in the accident and their body slides down under the lap strap. To avoid it, do not put anything on the seat (towels, cushions, etc.) and adjust the seat and seat belt properly (do not tilt the seat back too far or drive lying back).
