Under Article 36.2 of the General Traffic Regulations (RGC) (as worded by RD 518/2026), bicycles may ride two abreast on the hard shoulder and, if there is none or it is not passable and wide enough, on the part of the carriageway that is strictly necessary. They must ride in single file on stretches without visibility, when they affect the flow of traffic, between sunset and sunrise, or in conditions that noticeably reduce visibility.
