The airbag is a passive safety device designed to protect the vehicle's occupants from hitting the rigid parts of the car in an accident. It opens instantly in a collision, inflating with gas to cushion the impact. Remember that the airbag does not replace the seat belt, but works together with it. Without the seat belt fastened, the airbag opening can cause serious injuries.
