Rain is a weather phenomenon that can have a negative effect on driving and requires extra care. On a wet carriageway, the tyres lose some of their grip. The carriageway becomes extremely slippery when the first drops fall. To avoid an accident on a wet carriageway, as well as keeping your tyres at the right pressure and with enough tread, you should: - Moderate your speed and increase the safe distance (up to double). - Brake earlier and more gently (braking distance can be up to double). - Test your brakes after driving through a flooded stretch or pools of water (remember that if they get wet, you should brake several times to dry them). - Take extra care when driving at high speed, because you may aquaplane (the tyres cannot clear the layer of water on the carriageway and lose grip).
