As a general rule, stopping or parking on roads outside built-up areas must always be done off the carriageway, on its right-hand side and leaving the usable part of the hard shoulder free. In built-up areas, on urban roads, it is done on the carriageway and on the hard shoulder, even if it is usable, as long as a free space of at least 3 m is left.
