A round traffic light showing green means that we have right of way over other vehicles and so allows us to pass, except when traffic is such that the vehicle is likely to end up stopped in a junction, pedestrian crossing or cycle crossing, blocking or obstructing crossing traffic. When the green light is on for vehicles, pedestrians will usually face a red light that prohibits them from crossing.
