Under Article 36.2 of the General Traffic Regulations (RGC) (as worded by RD 518/2026), vehicles required to use the hard shoulder (mopeds, special vehicles of up to 3,500 kg, etc.) may not travel side by side, except bicycles, which may ride two abreast. They must ride in single file on stretches without visibility, when they affect the flow of traffic, between sunset and sunrise, or when visibility is noticeably reduced.
