The recovery position (lateral safety position) means placing the injured person on their side with the mouth lowest; this stops the tongue falling back and lets vomit and blood drain out. Use it when: the person starts to vomit or to bleed from the mouth or ear; or you have to leave the injured person alone to go for help.
